Good idea

| I like this - I can tie it to my waist, adjust it to where it hurts, and keep on going. This type cold pack doesn't seem to be as cold to me as real ice or the gel types, but it is good for its type. When I needed it colder, I held a gel pack on with it. |
I love this product

I have quite a few of the Thermalon heat wraps and am very satisfied with them -- good moist heat. I use the one for the back and the one for the neck several times a week. They've improved the waist ties for the back one so they are sturdier. I've given a back wrap to my sister, my father and a girlfriend and they all like it too.
P.S. I always wondered if these review were real -- this is my first. |
Good for your aching back

I like this heat wrap because you simply tie it on and go about your business. I've had mine for about 6 months now and just 2-3 minutes in the microwave and the heat lasts a very long time and it is not dry heat but a theraputic moist heat just as advertised. I usually use it in the morning when having coffee and the ties are generously long measuring 65 inches from end to end.

The ties make this nearly perfect!

| Though all microwavable heat packs lose their heat after a few minutes, this one last a bit longer than the other 2 brands that I own. It also continues to stay warm for a couple of hours. I heat this for 90 seconds in my microwave, and it is pretty steamy. The size is quite generous, and the ties make this nearly perfect. The ability to put this on, and pull it tight really allows you to maximize the use of the heat- especially if you're reading or watching TV (rather than lying down). Because it's tied on, you can walk around with it on! I had no idea just how much difference the straps would make to an already quality product. |
Great for lower back or abdomen

| The straps are handy, and the moist beads are great. All their products heat up easily even in my mini microwave. I use it for lower back pain or stomach aches. So far, I've had great success with Thermalon products. I had one defective wrap (not this model) where the sewing was imperfect and the beads leaked, but they will replace or refund if so. Because of their great customer service, I continue to buy them and don't mind the occasional defect. |
Excellent back therapy, quick, safe, and easy to use

Highly recommended if you have chronic back problems. This delivers moist heat, like a hydroculator, but without the pot of boiling water, the time to boil it, the danger of handling hot water, or the dripping mess. You just put it in a microwave oven for two minutes or less, then tie it around your waist and go about your business. As a bonus, when you're sitting, it provides the same lumbar support as a back cushion, because it's against the small of your back.
I think it must contain silica gel (a dessicant). When it's cool and not in use, it absorbs moisture from the air. When heated in a microwave oven, it releases that moisture, like a hydroculator. So, if it's tied around your waist and pressing against your back, moist heat is released onto your lower back, penetrating and relaxing the muscles.
It stays usefully warm for between 20 and 30 minutes. You can briefly reheat it afterwards (30-45 seconds max) and use it again. However, to fully reabsorb moisture, it needs a couple of hours at room temperature.
A real hydroculator doesn't stay hot even that long, and you have to deal with boiling water, a foul smell, and finding a way to keep it pressed against your back. A chiropractor or physical therapist just has you lie face down on a table while they place the hyrdoculator on a towel on your back, but that means you have to lie still, and can't walk around.
I've been using it in combination with a Percussion Massager (also bought here at Amazon, but a discontinued model) and a Homedics Shiatsu Massage seat (various versions sold by Amazon).
I've been using it for about a month now, and have had no problems whatsoever: no crystals dropping out, no melting, or any of the other problems some people have reported. Maybe it's been improved, or maybe I've been more gentle with it, and have been careful to follow the instructions, never heating it for more than 2 minutes when cool, or more than 30-45 seconds when being rewarmed. If/when it does go, we've already bought a spare, and will get more of them: the price is less than half of one visit to a chiropractor. |
Fantastic relief for back pain

| My wife is 5-months pregnant with twins and started to experience major back pain. For a couple of weeks, we were using one of those blue hot/cold gel packs where we had to boil the water, put the gel pack in for a few minutes, then wrap it around a towel and I would have to apply it. The warmth of the gel pack lasted no longer than 8-10 minutes. Then, I was doing some research on heating pads and found this. Incredible! Although the instructions states that we should heat it in the microwave for 1 minute, 30 seconds, we found that 1 minute was sufficient. An extra 30 seconds was too hot. The best things about this product is that it doesn't burn your skin and it wraps around your waist. Both my wife and I are extremely happy with this product. We would recommend this to any pregnant woman who experiences back pain. Of course, it's only a temporary relief, but it really helped alleviate the pain for my wife. |
must-have in the freezing office

| Our office AC was on full blast all summer long, and it was so cold that some of us got sick from it. Unfortunately the AC situation was never improved because apparently others were OK or even felt hot - it would depend on where you sit. As a means of "self-defense" I ordered the Thermalon Wrap and what a relief it was! It is easy to heat it up and stays warm for a good amount of time. I have similar products at home but I like it that this one has a belt that you can tie around your waist. The gentle heat is also great on stiff shoulder and back too. This really saved me in the freezing office. |
nice moist heat when you need it

| when my back is hurting from working 12 hour shifts, i used to use the thermal patches. they take half an hour to heat up. this one is ready in 1 minute. it doesn't last as long as the patches but you just pop it in the micro for 30 seconds to re heat. thermal patches get tossed out when they cool and you have to buy more. |
Great!!

pros: very warm and moisturizing, flexible enough to use on more than just your back, easy to heat.
Cons: the heat only last about 20-30 minutes.
Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and would surely recommend this. |

not worth the money

| We bought two of these for my husband. They do not hold up well to being heated in the microwave. Within one month, one wrap disintegrated and the beads fell out. The second wrap lasted a little longer before suffering the same fate. My husband is now back to microwaving a tube sock filled with rice, and using ice packs. They work just as well. Save your money. |
it will melt if u keep it in the microwave more then 2:40 minutes

Don't waste your time and money on this

| The first time I used this product, it worked great! This is the only reason I am not giving it a 1 star review. The second time I tried to use it, I popped in the microwave for 2 minutes. I thought this was not too long, according to the package directions. When I went to pull it out, thousands of little beads came pouring out of a hole in the corner. What a mess! This product is hardly well made if it cannot withstand a single use. Don't waste your time and money on this product. It is not well made at all. |
Almost worthless!

| This product looked good and liked the idea of the ties to keep it in place, but after full time in microwave it barely got hot enough to do a thing and only stayed warm for about 5 minutes. Was replacing another brand I bought several years ago and finally microwaved it a bit too much and it sort of melted, but was a far superior product and stayed warm/hot for up to an hour. Am returning this and will look for my older brand again. |
